CARMEL – New class, old success for the Greyhounds.
Once again Carmel is finding its way back to Lucas Oil Stadium after winning their first Class 6A Semi State game at home 28-13 over Penn.
Kevin Wright’s team becomes the sixth Greyhounds squad in the last eight years to advance to the state championship game. The previous five appearances came in Class 5A.
Issac James’ two touchdown runs would prove to be the difference for the Greyhounds, who pulled away from the Kingsman in the fourth quarter.
Despite the joy of the victory Carmel fans got a bit of a scare in the first half when a referee collapsed on the field. He attended to by medical personnel for several minutes before being placed on a stretcher. The referee made the fans feel a little better when he waved to the crowd as he was wheeled out of the stadium.
Carmel athletic director Jim Inskeep tweeted early Saturday morning that the referee is alert and the prognosis is good.
