INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 17, 2013) — Lightning struck a house near Geist early Sunday morning as wind and rain pummeled the area.

It was that storm that first woke the homeowners up, a couple sleeping inside. They both got up to check things out after a booming thunder clap.  Moments later, the smoke detectors began blarring. When the two noticed smoke in an upstairs bedroom, they immediately called 911 and got out of the house.

Firefighters could see smoke as they arrived at the house in the 96-hundred block of Winsome Court, just after 1 a.m.

Firefighters found  flames in the basement. They had the fire under Control within 40 minutes. Estimated damages weren’t immediately determined

One firefighter was injured, taken to the hospital for dehydration.  No one else was hurt.
