State of emergency issued for Kokomo until Monday morning

KOKOMO, Ind.—A state of emergency has been issued for Kokomo, Ind. and the rest of Howard County as severe weather rolled through the area Sunday afternoon.

Widespread damage was seen across the city. Fox59 was on the scene of a Starbucks shop that sustained severe structural damage and vehicles in the parking lot were overturned.

Officials urged residents to stay off the street or they would be subject to arrest.

Authorities confirmed some people sustained minor injuries after windows blew out at the Kokomo Town Center Mall.

The Red Cross will be available for those who need assistance or looking for shelter. The location is at the Ivy Tech Event Center on North 31.

The state of emergency will be active until 6 a.m. Monday.
