INDIANAPOLIS (November 20, 2013) – A man convicted of shooting and killing a teenager in 2012 has been sentenced to 55 years in prison.
A judged handed down the sentence Wednesday. Glenn Beard, 57, was convicted of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon after the shooting that killed 13-year-old Jarrell Tucker. The sentence included 55 years for murder and 10 years on the firearms charge; the judge said Beard would serve the sentences concurrently.
Beard said Tucker and a friend tried to rob his brother in August 2012. He denied killing the teen but admitted that he and Tucker had a physical fight.
Police said Beard shot Tucker twice.
Beard’s home on North Denny Street was deliberately set on fire twice after the shooting.
