INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Emergency crews responded to an accident on the northwest side after a woman crashed her car into a hair salon Friday morning.

The accident occurred in the 6100 block of North Michigan Road around 6 a.m.  Police said the woman was driving southbound on Michigan Road, when she crossed over to the northbound lanes before driving through the lawn of the salon.

No one was inside the salon at the time of the accident.

The woman was able to get herself out of the car.

“Airbags are a wonderful thing,” said Bonnie Hensley with IFD. “She got out and walked next door.”

The woman was transported to St. Vincent’s hospital in stable condition after calling 911 from the house next door.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

The owner of the building, George Payton, said he was glad the driver’s injuries were not life-threatening. His daughter now runs the beauty salon and had just updated the inside.

“All of this here, just about seven or eight months ago was all new. We just remodeled,” said Payton. He said an insurance agent would be out later in the day to assess the damage.
