INDIANAPOLIS — A northwest side salon owner got quite the wakeup call after a young woman drove her car into the front of the business Friday morning.

It happened at 6107 N. Michigan Road at the Payton and Payton Salon around 6 a.m.

The Indianapolis Fire Department said the woman was southbound on Michigan Road when she veered left into the northbound lanes and struck a brick house that houses the salon. No one was inside the business.

The woman got herself out of the car and went to a neighbor for help.

“Airbags are a wonderful thing,” said Bonnie Hensley with the IFD. “She got out and walked next door. She was alert and talking.”

She was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in stable condition.

The salon owner’s father, George Payton, said his wife owned the salon for 20 years before his daughter took over. She had recently remodeled.

No one was seriously hurt and the damage was not too severe. The hole has been patched and business has resumed as normal.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
