ISP investigating officer-involved shooting in Crawfordsville

CRAWFORDSVILLE (November 23, 2013) – Indiana State Police say they are investigating a shooting involving a Crawfordsville police officer.

The shooting happened around 10:30 Saturday morning in the parking lot of the RR Donnelley plant on Sloan Street.

Police say that while a Crawfordsville Officer was on route patrol, he noticed a blue 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van following him.

The officer pulled into the parking lot of the RR Donnelly publishing company to see if the driver of the van needed assistance.

As the officer got out of his patrol car, the driver of the van attacked him.

The driver was later identified as Mauricio Antonio Serrano, 26 years old from Crawfordsville.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that during the altercation, the officer, while fearing for his life pulled his weapon and shot Serrano.

Serrano was transported to St. Elizabeth in Crawfordsville and then was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with non-life threatening injuries.

State Police say at this time, the investigation is ongoing.
