INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 24, 2013) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Michael Hegg, who was involved in a crash Friday morning on the city’s east side, has been released from the hospital.

Early Friday morning, Officer Hegg was turning into the Cherry Tree Plaza when the eastbound semi-tractor and trailer came through the stop light as it was turning red.

The semi driver swerved, but was unable to avoid the collision.  The semi struck the front passenger corner of Officer Hegg’s police car and then veered off the road, through a guardrail, into the McDonald’s parking lot on the southeast corner of the intersection.

Officer Hegg was released from the hospital Sunday morning and is at home resting.

IMPD officials want to thank the community for the outpouring of support in hoping a speedy recovery for Officer Hegg.
