INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 3, 2013)– A home was destroyed after an east side fire Tuesday, but the family was able to evacuate in time.

Dennis and Lynda Godbold were informed by their neighbors of a fire in their basement around 6 p.m. Tuesday night. The Godbold family was able to get out of their house on Trowbridge St. without injury. Inside the house were the two owners, one of the owner’s sister, her son and two foster children.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they decided to evacuate because the floor was at risk of collapsing.

One crew prompted a Mayday call after their exit was block by clutter that forced the back door shut. All firefighters got out of the building safely. Code Enforcement was en route to assess the collapse risk.

The home has been destroyed, but no injuries have been reported.
