INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (December 7, 2013) –  Free bags of salt are available today as part of St. Vincent’s salt bagging project to prevent falls on ice.

Volunteers from throughout Central Indiana will bag, load and transport several truckloads of road salt for the 21st Annual ERase Salt Bagging Project.

Beginning at noon, Indiana residents are encouraged to drive up to the St.Vincent Emergency Department (2001 W. 86th Street Indianapolis, IN 46260) and take free bags of road salt.

The St.Vincent Emergency Department has partnered with the city of Indianapolis and other local organizations to bag salt to reduce and prevent the number of emergency room visits related to falls on ice during the winter season.

The ERase project is especially beneficial for the older adult and pediatric populations, who are advised to be more vigilant during the winter season.

Common back injuries, wrist and ankle fractures can occur due to falls on ice.
