INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 13, 2013)—Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department determined a gunshot that struck a 3-year-old victim at a west side house Thursday originated from within the residence.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of West 27th Street on a report of a child shot. When they arrived, they found the child’s mother holding the victim.

It was initially reported the child was shot after answering a knock at the door. However, police determined the gunshot was fired from inside. Additionally, police said they are seeking a person of interest, but no further information has been released.

The child was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health for treatment. He was in good condition. The victim’s name is not being released at this time.
