MUNCIE, Ind.—The Ball State University Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own—a 10-year-old police K-9.

Tara, who has been with the department for five years, was killed after being struck by a vehicle while off-duty near the home of her handler, Scott Stafford, on Dec. 5.

The Belgian Malinois served as a narcotic detection and search dog for the police department.

A memorial will be held for Tara on Jan. 10 at 1 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Park. The public is invited to attend.
