HENDRICKS COUNTY – A man was found dead inside his home after a fire.
Herschal Crouse, 84, was found by someone who was checking in on him. The person saw the fire, believed Crouse was inside, and called 911. It was 9:43 in the morning.
Crouse was found in the kitchen/dining room, which is located in the back of the home. His home is off of County Road 200 South.
When firefighters arrived, they noticed the fire was out and they did not see any smoke. Mill Creek Fire Department Public Information Officer, Jerry Johnson, said because the fire was small it would not unusual for the fire to put itself out.
“There’s nothing, at this time, to point to any kind of foul play,” Johnson said.
Johnson said at this time they do not know how Crouse died or the cause of the fire.
“With the fire being the way it was -it was already out. We don’t even know what time. It’s hard to assume or (know) what was going on at that time,” Johnson said.
An autopsy is scheduled Wednesday night. Crouse was the owner of the home and lived by himself.
