INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 6, 2014) – A woman’s death is under investigation after she was found Monday morning, and it appeared cold played a factor.

According to the Wayne Township Fire Department, the woman–who was in her 90s–was found in her backyard around 8 a.m. It happened in the 6000 block of Carlsen Avenue on the west side. It appeared she had been brushing snow off her back walk for her dogs.

Investigators said it was unclear if the woman suffered a medical condition or slipped on the ice. Signs pointed to her death being weather related.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police are also investigating. Officers said the woman’s son last talked to her around 9 p.m. Sunday. He went to check on her Monday morning.

The coroner will have the final determination on the cause of death.
