GREENWOOD (March 3, 2014) – Greenwood parents said they can’t believe a trusted member of the community resigned over an apparent sex scandal involving a student.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police arrested 36-year-old Timothy Guilfoy Saturday night after they found him nude in a truck with a 17-year-old girl. Guilfoy told officers the two were having sex. Police said he also admitted he was a teacher at Greenwood High School, and the girl was one of his students.

Greenwood Community School Corporation said they are cooperating fully with law enforcement in the investigation.

“I think it’s deplorable,” said Teresa Heath, who lives in Greenwood.

The news of the high school teacher’s arrest was the talk of the town Monday night.

“We were just shocked,” said Fred Roberts, a parent.

Roberts and his wife found out Monday afternoon, when they got a call from the Greenwood school district.

“They left a recording saying that a Greenwood teacher from the high school was arrested over the weekend,” he said.

Guilfoy resigned from Greenwood schools on Sunday, where he also coached girls golf and strength training. The district said he’s been an employee since 2000.

“We talked to him every once in a while and stuff,” said Roberts.

Roberts said he knew Guilfoy from somewhere else, Greenwood Christian Church. The church confirms the 36-year-old was a volunteer coach for a basketball team of 10 to 12-year-old girls. His daughter was a player on that team. A minister told FOX59 Guilfoy was not a member of the church, and he’ll never coach there again.

Students are surprised at the accusations facing their teacher.

“He seemed pretty nice. He’s kind of a quirky guy, and I didn’t think he’d get arrested for something like that,” said Jerrod Savage, a freshman at Greenwood High School. Savage has Guilfoy this semester for P.E. He said the teacher’s tryst is all over social media, and a prime source of chatter for students.

Parents like Fred Roberts are worried now, too, disappointed over lost trust for a person who’s supposed to lead the way.

“I got three girls that go to (those) schools, one in high school, one in middle, one in elementary,” he said, “You never know anymore.”

Guilfoy is out on bond and preliminarily charged with two counts of child seduction. Child seduction is a special charge meant for someone who is in a position of trust in relation to a child.

The prosecutor’s office expects to file formal charges later in the week.

FOX59 reached out to the Guilfoy family Monday, but nobody answered the door at their home.
