School bus driver charged with battery after fight with student

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 5, 2014)– A school bus driver is facing charges after engaging in a fight with a student.

Autumn Bonilla, 14, admitted she started arguing with the bus driver while the driver was trying to discipline another child. Bonilla said she swore at the driver, then the two went at it first verbally then physically.

The school bus driver caught on video smacking a student with a broom on her bus told FOX59 she had no choice but to defend herself. Video below shows the driver, 47-year-old Charlotte McDaniel, taking a broom to the face of the teen. She is now facing one charge of battery.

McDaniel is employed by Durham School Services, not Indianapolis Public Schools. The company last said McDaniel is on leave.
