Suspect identified after fatal hit-and-run on west side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 28, 2014)– The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) are releasing the identity of a man who turned himself in after a fatal hit-and-run on the city’s west side.

Police were called out to the 3400 block of Georgetown Road near West 34th Street just before 6 p.m. Thursday on a report of a possible crash involving a fatality.

A total of four vehicles, including the suspect’s vehicle, were involved in the crash. One person was killed as a result of the accident.

At 8:30 p.m. Thursday, William Edwards (pictured above), 33, of Indianapolis, was brought to Eskenazi Health uninjured by family members after making erratic and inconsistent statements to them about what happened.

Edwards will be preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, possession of marijuana and battery.
