INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March) — Through the generosity of customers, Speedway LLC gifted nearly $1.8 million on Thursday night to Riley Hospital for Children. Central Indiana Speedway associates personally contributed an additional $4,400 to purchase 66 life-size plush animals for the newly created Bear in the Chair program.

What’s a “Bear in a Chair?” It’s a program that provides teddy bears kids who are admitted to Riley for longer than a week. The bear takes the child’s place in their classroom, maintaining a connection between the child being treated and their school. The program began in the Speedway Burn Center and Riley Hospital for Children plans to expand the opportunity to include each hospital unit.
