INDIANAPOLIS – Investigators with the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (FACT) are investigating a serious crash involving one fatality.

At 8:24 p.m., officers with the Lawrence Police Department and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) were called to the 7400 block of Pendleton Pike on a report of a serious crash.

Officers found the driver of a small compact vehicle suffering from extensive injuries. The driver was transported by EMS crews to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he later died. The driver of a white pickup truck and his passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Detectives believe the white pickup was headed west on Pendleton Pike and was turning to go south onto the ramp of 465. The other vehicle was traveling east on Pendleton Pike when it was struck by a white pickup.

Witnesses told investigators that just before the crash the white pickup was seen traveling west on Pendleton Pike erratically and at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the white pickup will have his blood tested for illegal intoxicants as standard procedure for any accident involving a fatality. Investigators do, however, suspect alcohol is a factor in the crash.
