MUNCIE, Ind. (April 14, 2014)– Delaware County’s Treasurer was arrested Monday and now faces dozens of charges.

John Dorer, 50, has been charged with 46 felony counts and one misdemeanor. Police say he stole county funds, however there has not been a total dollar figure released for the amount Dorer allegedly stole.

Dorer is charged with:

  • One count of theft
  • One count of official misconduct
  • One count of conversion
  • 44 counts of failure to properly deposit public funds

County Prosecutor Jeffrey Arnold, whose office filed the criminal charges, has filed a civil lawsuit against Dorer requested by the Indiana State Board of Accounts that is aimed at removing Dorer from office.

Dorer was elected county treasurer in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. If convicted of as much as one felony count, he can no longer hold office.
