UPDATE | Dirt bike driver killed in crash on near northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 13, 2014)— A person was killed following an accident on Indianapolis’ near northeast side Sunday night.

Authorities said the accident occurred at 30th Street and Ralston Avenue just before 9 p.m. and involved a dirt bike and a car.

According to the police report, the driver of the Yamaha YZF bike, later identified as a 31-year-old Indianapolis man, was heading east on 30th Street. A witness told police that the man was traveling at a high rate of speed, attempting to catch up to another vehicle, before striking a Chevy Malibu.

The driver of the Chevy Malibu told authorities she was stopped at the intersection of Ralston and 30th before turning south. As she was making the turn, she said she was struck by the dirt bike.

The dirt bike did not have a headlight, according to the report.
