Man seriously injured after SUV crashes into semi in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY (May 1, 2014) – A Cloverdale man was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after his SUV slammed into the side of a semi truck Wednesday night.

Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies arrived at the scene of the crash at 1420 E. State Road 42 around 10:30 p.m.

State police said the semi was trying to back into a driveway when a 2004 Ford SUV slammed into its side. The driver of the SUV, Jack Rhoden, 69, Cloverdale, had to be extricated from the vehicle. After being stabilized, he was airlifted to IU Health Methodist in Indianapolis.

Police said Rhoden wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and suffered multiple fractures and cuts. They described his injuries as life threatening.

The driver of the semi, Mark Patterson, 50, Cloverdale, suffered minor injuries. He was treated at the scene.

State Road 42 was closed for more than an hour for investigation and cleanup.
