INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (may 10, 2014) — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department detectives have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting from early Saturday morning at a west side bar.

Devin Brookins, 25 of Indianapolis, has been arrested on preliminary charges of murder.

Police were called to 1200 block of South Girls School Road for a fight outside Sully’s Bar & Grill.

When police arrived, they received a second call at the same location for shots fired outside the bar.

They found 34-year-old Michael Willoughby unresponsive after being shot in the parking lot of the bar. Willoughby was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives were later told that a group of people, including the suspect and the victim, had gotten into a fight outside the bar.

Police believe the suspect, victim and others were involved in a fight earlier in the evening inside the building and had to be removed by the bar’s security.

Detectives received a tip that the suspect would surrender to police at Harbor Christian Church on 25th Street.

Brookins turned himself in and was taken to IMPD headquarters for questioning and then arrested on preliminary charges of murder.
