LEBANON (May 23, 2014) – A gas leak forced the closure of Lebanon High School and Memorial Park, Boone County authorities said Friday.

All students and teachers at the school are safe, and no one is allowed to leave the building until the leak is contained. Crews from Vectren are on the scene as well as Lebanon police and fire. Lebanon police said a construction crew struck a 4-inch high-pressure gas main around 11:15 a.m in the area of Ulen and Meridian Street.

A two-block radius from the leak has been evacuated and traffic was being routed around the area. The school is not in the danger zone, but the campus shut down to prevent students or parents from getting close to the leak. The repair timeline will likely extend past school hours, police said.
