FISHERS, Ind. (May 24, 2014) — A woman hit by a bus carrying Geist Marathon race participants last week has passed away.
A post on the marathon’s website says:
The Geist Half Marathon board offers our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and loved ones of Erin Harris who passed away last night from injuries suffered in a traffic accident prior to the Geist Half Marathon last Saturday morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time of sorrow. The safety of our participants and spectators is our highest priority and we will continue to work with officials to minimize the risk of injury to everyone involved.
The family released a statement as well:
We are devastated to tell you that Erin has passed away at Methodist Hospital this evening. She is with the Lord and while we are all deeply saddened we take comfort knowing that she is home. Thank you for all your support and prayers during this most difficult time. The amount of love and support has blessed us more than you know. We are so grateful that our family has been able to spend precious time with her and say our goodbyes. Donations will go towards Sawyer and Eloise’s future.
Harris, 34, was hit by the bus just after 6 AM on May 17th. The accident happened near the 11700 block of Olio Road, near the Start/Finish line of the marathon.
