SPEEDWAY (May 29, 2014) – They’re racing to beat hunger.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Kroger and Gleaners Food Bank launched their “Race to End Hunger” campaign Thursday at the Kroger store in Speedway. The initiative allows customers to donate money at the checkout to help the hungry in 21 Indiana counties.

IMS President Doug Boles, Kroger Division President Jeff Burt and Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana President and CEO Cynthia Hubert were among those at Thursday’s kickoff.

Burt said Kroger will match the first $25,000 in donations while Boles said IMS will match the first $10,000 in donations. Results from the campaign will be announced during Kroger Super Weekend at the Brickyard, which runs from July 24 through July 27 at IMS.

More than 40 Indianapolis-area Kroger stores will participate in the campaign. Customers can donate in increments of $1, $3 and $5. All donations go to Gleaners Food Bank.
