DECATUR COUNTY, Ind. (May 29, 2014)– The Decatur County coroner has confirmed that a man drowned near St. Paul, IN.

The victim, 30-year-old Ryan L. Hester from Cincinnati, OH, and his friend were jumping from a 30 foot platform into a rock quarry. The Department of Natural Resources says the two apparently jumped at the same time. After hitting the water, only one surfaced.

The body was discovered in 19 feet of water around 5 p.m. Thursday. The victim’s friend was uninjured.

The area is “swim at your own risk,” and people must sign a waiver agreeing to that. The DNR also says that only one person is supposed to jump at a time from the platform.
