INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 2, 2014) – A new ordinance begins today to help ex-offenders find jobs.

The “Ban the Box” rule affects city and county contractors.

They can no longer ask about a person’s criminal background on an application or during a first-round interview.

The goal is to reduce the number of people who come out of prison only to re-offend because they can’t find work.

More than 50 other cities and a handful of states across the country have passed similar measures.
