COLUMBUS, Ind. (June 17, 2014)—An 18-year-old Columbus man has been arrested for allegedly shooting another man in the neck Monday night.

Jimmie Dewayne Hair, Jr. is being held on a preliminary charge of attempted murder.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 1200 block of 8th Street, where they found a 20-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Police said they do not believe the shooting was a random act and that Hair knew the victim, whose name is not being released at this time. However, the motive for the shooting is unclear.

Detectives continue to search for a small caliber handgun that they believe was discarded in the area after the shooting. Police are asking residents in the area to stay alert for the possible unsecured firearm.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Det. Ryan Linnewebber at 812-376-2600.
