INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 20, 2014) — A mother and her baby were the victims of a brutal attack inside a local mall parking garage Friday.

Indianapolis Metro Police officers say the woman was inside the parking deck at The Fashion Mall with her 11-month-old daughter when, police say, the robber pointed a gun at her. The woman was hit over the head with that gun before detectives say she fell to the ground causing scrapes to her daughter’s foot. The robber tried to grab the woman’s purse, that was attached to the stroller, and pulled the stroller several yards. The woman sprained her ankle while trying to run after the suspect, and the robber took off, leaving the stroller behind.

“I’m totally shocked that it happened at Keystone, an upscale mall in Indianapolis, I’m very shocked,” said shopper Mary Ann Kail.

Kail said she has a habit of looking over her shoulder just in case there’s something suspicious, and has advice just the same.

“From the minute you pull in to the parking lot, you observe if there’s anything that looks a little strange, you don’t park, you keep on going and then you notify the police,” Kail said.

IMPD says both mom and her baby were treated by medics.
