STOCKTON, Calif. (June 23, 2014) – California’s “hot felon” won legions of female admirers, but his wife isn’t thrilled with the attention.

Not at all.

According to CBS Sacramento, Jeremy Meeks—whose mugshot nearly caused the internet to implode last week—has been married for four years. He has two young children.

“She’s upset. She’s furious,” a friend of Meeks told the TV station. “Her man’s in there, and people are taking it as a joke.”

Meeks was arraigned Friday and charged with 11 felony counts of weapons possession and gang activity.

His mother is trying to use his new fame to help pay for his defense through a crowdfunding effort. She claims he was arrested on his way to work and has no gang affiliations. She says he’s an ex-gang member who’s turned his life around, and believes he’s getting a bum rap because of his former gang associations and tattoos. So far, the crowdfunding effort has raised $4,100.

During Friday’s hearing, Meeks’ bail was raised to $1 million. He was arrested with four other men on June 18 after a joint law enforcement sweep targeting gang activity.
