ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (June 28, 2014) — Indiana conservation officers suspended the search for a missing kayaker Friday evening.

The missing kayaker has been identified as Steven Seitz, 54, of Decatur, Ind.

Conservation officers searched the river for him on Saturday using sonar equipment but were unable to find him and will resume searching St. Mary’s River in Decatur, Sunday morning.

Seitz went missing just after when he and another kayaker were on the St. Mary’s River near the 2700 block of North U.S. 33.

His kayak struck a log jam in the river and it overturned, throwing Seitz into the water.

He was not wearing a life jacket and did not resurface.
