IMPD searching for suspect in fatal hit-and-run

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 12, 2014) — Police are looking for a driver involved in a fatal hit and run.

The accident happened just before 11AM Saturday near Township Line Road and 79th Street. Police say a man was on his skateboard when someone hit him with their car and took off.

Officers arrived and discovered the unresponsive body of 22-year-old Patrick Hurd of Merrillville who was pronounced dead by EMS personnel at the scene.

Investigators believe that the victim was likely struck sometime after midnight likely on his way back to a friend’s house from a near-by gas station and that the victim was either carrying or riding a skateboard that was found at the scene.

Police do not have a description of the vehicle but believe that the suspect vehicle should have moderate to significant front passenger side damage.  Anyone with the information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS, specifically, anyone that was driving or walking on Township Line Road around or after midnight that may remember someone walking or riding a skateboard.  Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).
