Police: Boyfriend used hammer to kill girlfriend

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 14, 2014) — Indianapolis Metropolitan police say a man used a hammer to kill his girlfriend Sunday night.

Officers were called to the 4600 block of Lynnfield Road at the Scarborough Lake Apartments near Interstate 465 and 46th Street around 9:25 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses said a man outside was screaming that his girlfriend was dead.

When officers arrived, they located the man, later identified as 38-year-old Chad Gilman, and found the woman dead. She’d suffered apparent signs of trauma. Police arrested Gilman Monday morning and said he’d killed her with a hammer during an argument. Detectives interviewed Gilman shortly after the incident.

Police haven’t yet released the victim’s name.
