JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (July 13, 2014) – A 7-year-old girl was injured in a Johnson County ATV accident Sunday evening.

The accident occurred around 7 p.m. in the 4500 block of South 537 East in Franklin.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that the child was driving the ATV and became distracted, causing her to veer off the road and hit a utility pole.

The child suffered a facial laceration and was checked out on scene by EMS and released.

She was later taken to Johnson County Memorial Hospital by family members for precautionary reasons.

The child was not wearing a helmet or protective gear. She was being supervised by adults when the incident occurred.

Indiana Conservation Officers want to urge the public not to operate ATV’s on the roadway unless the county is open for such activity.

Officers also encourage operators to always wear protective gear, especially a helmet.
