Francis and Doris Vanderslice

ORANGE CITY, Fla. (July 15, 2014) – A Florida couple reaches a milestone not many marriages make – 72 YEARS!

And they haven’t let the romance die.

Doris Barrett first laid eyes on Francis Vanderslice in junior high.

The couple got married back in the 1920’s.

Today, the couple enjoys life in an assisted living facility.

Their advice to newlyweds is simple – Do things together, make decisions together, and keep that spark alive!

“When I saw him coming in the room, I said ‘Mmm mmm’ and I’m still saying it,” said Doris

When the two were married they tied cans to the car bumper and drove with them rattling on the road as they set off on their honeymoon.

The pair still has that last can that remained on the string.
