INDIANAPOLIS (July 15, 2014) – An Indianapolis woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a south side teenager.

Sarah A. Williams, 26, is charged with failure to stop at an accident scene causing death, a C felony. Fifteen-year-old Jack Bussa died. He was walking with some friends near Meridian Street and Stop 11 Road in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 29, when a car hit him. Police found the four-door Saturn that struck Bussa.

Detectives said Williams denied driving the car on the night of the wreck and told them her vehicle had been stolen. Further investigation showed she had been driving when Bussa was killed, police said.

Williams turned herself in after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

What a shame all the way around. Bad decision to hit someone with a car and then leave. Bad decision to allow a fifteen year old kid to walk the streets in the “early morning hours.” So sorry for everyone involved.

I have seen many mugshots on news stories and conjured up my own views of the people in those pictures. I have thought the worst of them and felt satisfaction that they were arrested. It is really eye opening now that I know the person in this particular one. She is so much more than the blank stare in the mugshot. She is a young devoted mother, the girl next door, the co-worker down the hall, the every day normal person, that many of us know or that many of us are. She freaked out after a horrible accident (where she was not at fault) and left and lied about it. While I do not think I would have reacted the same way, who knows?? Although stupid, those decisions did not cost Jack his life and her staying there would not have saved him. She told the truth soon after, it has just taken weeks to issue a warrant for some reason. I guarantee you that living with this tragedy is not something that she will easily do, regardless of the outcome.

I hope they slam the book at her. A mother with a young daughter out drinking and driving. . Killed a teenage boy hanging out with his friends. No remorse ! She lied and she was drunk.

She left the scene of an accident where she hit person with her car. Just last month I was behind a young woman (20yo) who also hit a pedestrian in the road. This young woman did not flee the scene, she called 911. She was hysterical and blaming herself, even though it wasn’t her fault, but she never attempted to flee.

Ms. Williams not only left the scene, but she also lied about her involvement. She came forward when her involvement was discovered. I am sorry for anyone who has to live with the horror of killing a person, but hers is compounded by not helping, nor taking responsibility, when she had the chance.
