JOHNSON COUNTY (July 17, 2014) – That phone call probably isn’t from your loved one.

That’s the word from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, which is warning residents of an ongoing phone scam.

Someone called two different Greenwood women claiming to be their grandson. The man said he’d been arrested for possession of marijuana and needed cash to get out of jail. The call came from a 514 area code in both cases.

One woman wired $13,000 to the man. The other bought $2,500 in Green Dot Money Pack Cards. Both women contacted police after realizing what happened.

If you receive a similar phone call, contact police.
