INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 17, 2014)— Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have arrested a man in connection with last weekend’s fatal hit-and-run crash.

Jacob Stricker, 25, was arrested on the charge of failure to stop after an accident resulting in death. Police said Stricker turned himself in around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police have been searching for a suspect in the hit-and-run crash after a bicyclist found the body of 22-year-old Patrick Hurd, of Merrilville, Ind., lying in a ditch in the 8800 block of Township Road.

Investigators believe Hurd was walking north on Township Line Road sometime after midnight on Saturday, July 12, when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling northbound.

It is believed the force of the vehicle’s impact caused Hurd to end up in the ditch, where he was not found until 10:45 a.m.
According to investigators, Hurd was on his way back to a friend’s house from a nearby gas station.

Stricker is being held on a $50,000 bond.
