INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 17, 2014)-- Prosecutor Terry Curry posted a picture on social media to create awareness about public safety. In the photo, Curry was holding a sign that read, "Gun violence kills or injures a child every 30 minutes."
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office started a social media campaign called #thinkSafe. Prosecutor Curry said it is another way to get the word out about free crime prevention programs offered through his office.
"Our hope is we to get them to resources that we can all think about how we address those problems," said Curry.
The prosecutor's office will post the messages on Facebook and Twitter over the next few weeks. Another recent post featured City-County Council President Maggie Lewis holding a sign with a gun violence statistic. Curry said the posts will include other council members, city leaders, staff members and lawmakers. He plans to cover a variety of topics.
"The first couple are related to children being victims of gun violence. We will have other messages that relate to misuse of social media, senior exploitation, property crimes," said Curry.
Summer interns thought of the idea for the campaign.
