Firefighters battle early morning blaze on near south side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 23, 2014) — Firefighters battled flames shooting from a home on the near south side early Wednesday morning.

Neighbors say the saw flames in the upstairs bedroom of the home in the 1200 block of Union Street, and called 911. Firefighters arrived shortly after 3 a.m. to heavy fire and smoke coming from the house. They were able to get it under control in under 25 minutes.

The homeowner was not there when the fire broke out and no one was injured.

The fire is believed to have started on the second floor. The cause is under investigation.
