GREENFIELD - One person has been arrested in connection to the murder of a woman whose body was found in a cornfield.

Amanda Gonzales is in custody. She's accused of one count of murder and one count of assisting a criminal. On July 24, two missionaries found Katrina Miller's body in a Hancock County cornfield near the intersection of West 800 and 350 North. The 23-year-old woman is from Indianapolis.

"She'll always be in our hearts. I'm going to make sure her daughter (gets) the life we never had growing up," Crystal Shelton, Miller's sister, said.

Authorities believe Miller's body was in the cornfield for several days. According to a probable cause affidavit, this case may center around possible missing drugs. The Marion County Coroner's Office confirms Miller died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Miller's family said Katrina Miller did not deserve for this to happen to her.

"She made a few bad choices and (there were) a few people (who) didn't like her, but nobody deserves this--at all," Shelton said.

Shelton said she received permanent guardianship of Miller's 2-year-old daughter recently.

"We're still back and forth between (the fact that) we can't believe this happened (to) accepting it," Shelton said.

Miller's mother, Linda Smythe, said authorities contacted them, alerting them there were several people in custody. It is unclear whether additional people will be arrested in connection to this case.

"That was a burden lifted. Perhaps I'll be able to get closure, when they are tried and convicted," Smythe said.
