VANDERBURGH COUNTY, Ind. (August 3, 2014) — Three men are behind bars and 14 pounds of crystal methamphetamine were seized after an ongoing investigation into an Arizona-based drug trafficking organization.

Officials say their surveillance showed several drug traffickers were visiting Vanderburgh County to deliver five pounds of meth.

Just before 2PM Saturday, law enforcement officials observed the drug transaction in a business parking lot involving a car and a semi trailer and started following one of the vehicles involved. After short pursuit through a residential area, the two suspects abandoned their car and fled on foot. One of them was apprehended almost immediately, the other was arrested several hours later.  A third man who was involved in the drug transaction was also arrested. In addition to the five pounds of meth used in the transaction, nine pounds were found in the semi trailer involved.

18-year-old Gerardo Sanchez  and 21-year-old Leonal Beltran, both from Arizona, have been charged with dealing meth and resisting law enforcement. Erlberto Ortega of Mexico has been charged with dealing meth.

Law enforcement officials say the meth seized during the arrests has an approximate value of $627,000.
