INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Aug. 9, 2014) Police are investigating a shooting early Saturday morning on the city’s east side. Two men were shot in a car on the east side just before 5 a.m.

“I heard gunshots at 4:52 this morning and I began to pray because that’s all I could do,” said BrightWood resident Wendy Bellamy.

First, a woman called police reporting that her car was being followed and  shot at. Then two victims walked into Community East Hospital reporting that they had been shot near East 30th Street and Dearborn. Police have connected the two incidents but are still trying to piece together exactly what happened.  A white Chevy was at the scene with about a dozen bullet holes.  Police say that at least two cars were involved, and both vehicles exchanged gunfire.

-“It doesn’t matter where you go there will be violence–but the stigma for the BrightWood neighborhood is that there is violence everywhere.  There are retired families, people children and good people on this block, it’s not all bad,” said Bellamy.

The men who showed up at the hospital were transported from Community East Hospital to Eskenazi Hospital.  At last check, both men were talking and in stable condition.
