BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Bloomington police have arrested a man who allegedly broke into a home and placed his hand over a woman’s mouth as she slept.

Andrew Carie, 42, is charged with attempted rape, burglary and confinement.

Officers were dispatched to the woman’s home on W. 7th Street around 3 a.m. Wednesday on a report of an intruder. The woman told officers she was sleeping when she woke to find a man lying on top of her with his hand over her mouth.

Carie fled after the victim screamed and pushed him away. He was discovered in bushes nearby with a flashlight. Before being arrested, Carie told police he had seen the man police were searching for and attempted to chase him down.

Because of Carie’s criminal history, 20 years could be added to his sentence if he’s convicted.
