NEW YORK (August 25, 2014) – Most of us were happy to see this past winter come to an end, but we’ve had a couple of scorchers these last few days.

So what would you think if you looked out your window and saw snow in the middle of summer?

That’s exactly what some New Yorkers saw in Manhattan’s Riverside Park yesterday.

Dozens of people unleashed their dogs on mounds of artificial snow.

The Petco “Dog Days of Summer” event was organized to give dogs a fun place to play, and also to promote adoption for pups needing forever homes.

American freestyle skier and Olympian Gus Kenworthy was there to promote the event.

“It’s basically a big fenced in area that they’ve filled with snow for dogs to just kind of come in and play and cool off on a hot day.  And there are a ton of pets here for adoption, which is awesome,” said Kenworthy.

The snow day also included family-friendly activities, food stands, and giveaways.
