INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.  (Aug. 31, 2014) --Indianapolis police are investigating the discovery of a badly burned body found in the backyard of a near east side house.

Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Elder Avenue at approximately 12:30 p.m. Sunday.  When officers arrived, they discovered an unidentified female suffering from apparent signs of fire trauma.

Monday, IMPD confirmed to FOX59 the victim was a 15-year-old girl.

Detectives said the homeowner was walking his dog, when he made the discovery in his backyard.  Detectives do not believe the victim was killed at the location she was found.   They believe that the victim was killed elsewhere and brought to the location, where she was found.

An official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Marion County Coroner’s Office after an autopsy has been performed Tuesday.
