Letter sent to parents after gun found in backpack at IPS elementary school

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 4, 2014) – Administrators found a gun in the backpack of a student at an IPS elementary school Wednesday.

According to a letter sent to parents at George Buck Elementary School (School 94), the firearm was inoperable.

The student was removed from the building at 2701 N. Devon Ave., IPS said. IPS police were handling the investigation.

Here’s the letter in its entirety:

This written communication is to inform you that administration and IPS Police confiscated an inoperable gun from a student today. The student has been removed from the building, and the matter is being handled by IPS Police. Please know that we are committed to the safety of your child. Thank you for your continued support as you send your child to school every day ready to listen, obey and make each day a great day of learning.
