JACKSON COUNTY (Sept. 4, 2014) – A Shelbyville man is a serial bank robber who struck in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio this summer, police say.

On Aug. 28, someone robbed Centra Credit Union in Seymour and then struck at the People’s Bank in Crothersville. The thefts happened just an hour apart.

Investigators now say that man is Evan Stewart, 22, Shelbyville. Indiana State Police, Seymour police and FBI investigators had been working “tirelessly” on the investigation. Stewart was arrested in Forest Park, Ohio, and is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center in Cincinnati.

He’s also a suspect in a series of July bank robberies in Forest Park and Clifton in the Cincinnati area as well as two August bank robberies in Louisville, Ky.

Indiana State Police said cooperation among law enforcement agencies in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio led to Stewart’s capture.

Formal charges against Stewart in Indiana are expected late this week or early next week.
