INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 7, 2014) – A man is recovering after being taken to the hospital after a Saturday morning fire.

Firefighters got the call about the fire on the 2300 block of North Webster just before 7AM. They were able to bring the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Investigators say unattended food cooking on the stove may be the cause of the fire. The homeowner told IFD that he fell asleep after he started cooking and woke up to a kitchen fire. He was able to escape, but taken to Eskanazi Hospital for evaluation.

There were no working smoke detectors in the home. The damage is estimated at around $30,000.
